Blooming Plants, Cool Bugs

I am not much of a gardener, but my husband has been busy planting pretty things lately.

Our hydrengea has a couple blooms, but I need to properly trim it this year.

This purple plant is just starting to bloom, the name escapes me.

Our hostas are monstrous this year and need to be divided again. See the spider?

The lavender has been easy to care for so far and has just started to bloom.

This purple flower blooms every morning and then the flowers die by nightfall. Fresh flowers every morning!

This spiny caterpillar is about the craziest I have seen. We looked him up, and he will be a Question Mark butterfly.

As I was taking a picture of the other caterpillar, the boys found 12 of these in the garden! These will be a Variegated Fritillary butterfly.

Darling Heart Breaker FOTD

I got the new Sugarpill Heart Breaker palette, and I am in love! I am not normally a very colorful person, but I have been having fun experimenting with this palette. I have all three Sugarpill palettes swatched and ready to post soon, along with some other colorful looks.

I am totally in love with Revlon Balm Stains as well. I plan on doing a look with the ones I got and posting them over the next two weeks. Swatches will be coming too.

Flushed Summer Honey FOTD

I am using my Too Faced Summer Eye again, Revlon Flushed Photoready blush, and Honey Kissable Balm Stain. The Photoready blushes are nicely buildable and dry to a powder finish. I am really liking the Balm Stains so far, but Honey is a touch drier than Charm. They leave color for about 5 hours on me, but the gloss lasts more like1 or 2 hours. Here I used a separate gloss over the stain.

Summer Eye FOTD

I was sitting down to try a few new things out, and I thought they looked pretty together.

I decided to take pictures and swatches since there seemed to be a theme happening.

Terrible swatches due to circumstances beyond my control (why does so much of my life involve cleaning up poop?)

I purchased the Too Faced Summer Eye palette with great reservation. I heard rumors of glitter and fallout, both of which I detest. The gorgeous color combination and adorably gaudy packaging kept calling my name though. So far, I love it!

Pink and Peach: The Drugstore Edition

I have a purchasing pattern.

Can you spot my need for order and balance?

One pink, one peach.

I haven't tested everything properly yet, but here are swatches:

Do you have a purchasing pattern? A color weakness?

Chanel Rivière FOTD

I saw swatches of the new Chanel Illusion d'Ombre released overseas, and I was smitten. Luckily I was able to order Rivière from Strawberrynet, and I didn't have to miss out on this gorgeous pale mint shade. I like to use the Illusion D'Ombres over eyeshadow to add dimension and sparkle.
I also recently got Guerlain Les Aquas to satisfy my want for shimmery blue and turquoise colors. It is beautiful, and if you have the chance to still get it, do it! I love Guerlain's reformulated quads. They have a nice firm but pigmented texture. The colors are all varied enough to make a complete look from each palette. It also helps that the packaging is gorgeous.

Chanel Rivière Illusion D'Ombre: Swatches and Review

Here is a quick review of Chanel Rivière Illusion D'Ombre. I am sorry to subject you to my ugly carpeting.

Rivière is a lovely shimmery mint. There is a touch of complexity that is difficult to capture with a camera.

Epatant is more of an antiqued silver, and it is also more complex. Rouge Bunny Rouge Periwinkle Cardinal is deeper, more of a dirty mint green.

Rivière makes a gorgeous compliment to my blue and green eyeshadows. If you already love Chanel's Illusion D'Ombre shadows, this silvery mint green is a must have!

Chanel Calypso Glossimer: Swatches and Review

Chanel Summer gives us a lovely orange glossimer called Calypso.

Calypso is blindingly coral in the tube, and has golden shimmer.
On the lips, Calypso is less vibrant than it appears in the tube. It gives a gorgeous coral lip with with a touch of sparkle.

Calypso leaves behind a bit of stain on the lips after it wears away. It does tend to leave behind the golden shimmer as well, so be warned if you dislike that. Overall I am very pleased with this color and will be wearing it with summer's bronzed looks.

Chanel Sable- Emouvant Duo: Swatches and Review

Being a bronze and neutrals kind of girl, I knew I would need to add Chanel's Sable- Emouvant Duo to my growing collection.

This duo has a deep bronze and neutral beige, both of which are smooth and full of pigment.
Of course I had a few similar colors to compare:
Urban Decay Busted is much cooler and more sheer. Rouge Bunny Rouge Bejewelled Skylark is more shimmery and warm bronze. Rouge Bunny Rouge Angelic Cockatiels is pinker and more shimmery. NARS Cyprus is similar but slightly more golden. Urban Decay Suspect is cooler toned and lighter.
Even though I have many similar colors, this duo has already proved to be one of my favorites. The colors apply so smoothly and blend effortlessly. It is neither too cool or warm, and would compliment many skin tones.

Chanel Summer FOTD

I used the three pieces I picked up from Chanel's Summer collection to create this simple look. Chanel always manages to put out classic colors with beautiful presentation, and I always manage to need them!
Sable- Emouvant Duo was used on the eyes. I lined with MAC Blacktrack on the top, and used Urban Decay Underground liner for a softer line on the bottom.

I used Sable Rose Bronzer as my only cheek product. It would work nicely as a bronzer, but is rosy enough to serve as a blush as well.

Calypso is on my lips in one layer only. It can be layered twice for a deeper and glossier look if you desire.

Chanel Sable Rose Bronzer: Swatches and Review

I was unable to resist the gorgeous striped bronzer from Chanel this summer.

Sable Rose is a pinkish bronze with golden shimmer. It gives an effortlessly subtle bronze to my fair skin.
I tried my best to compare it to last year's offering, Bronze Rosé. Sable Rose has smaller stripes, and the pink is dispersed evenly throughout. With Bronze Rosé, I am able to use the pink stripe as blush and the bronzer separately. Sable Rose has a golden shimmer, whereas Bronze Rosé is a satin finish.
I think Sable Rose is very similar to the bronze portion of Bronze Rosé. If you swirl the colors together, Bronze Rosé is pinker than Sable Rose.

I am happy I got this, since I loved last year's bronzer so much. They have a lot of similarities, so you won't be disappointed if you loved Bronze Rosé last year.

Overall this is a gorgeous bronzer for fair skin. It is subtle and slightly shimmery. I am not a huge user of bronzer, but I find Sable Rose is easy to sweep on. It adds the right amount color without looking fake or muddy.
